Nareit’s Sustainability Impact Awards recognize REITs for implementing sustainable practices that demonstrate leadership, ingenuity, and environmental impact in the commercial real estate industry.
The awards include three categories focused on projects and programs related to design, operational practices, and individual leadership.
- Sustainable Design Award: Architecture and engineering strategies that reduce environmental impact through smart design, new building development, or retrofitting of existing buildings.
- Sustainable at-Scale Award: Operational policies implemented across a building portfolio that advance corporate sustainability goals and achieve broad and measurable impact.
- Sustainable Leadership Award: An individual leader who creates a positive influence within their organization and across the REIT industry/community at-large.
The deadline to apply is Monday, June 24, 2024. Plan ahead by reviewing the 2024 application and start preparing your responses.
Please note: The Sustainability Awards application also includes the Leader in the Light® Awards narrative responses. By completing the Sustainability Awards application and participating in the GRESB Real Estate Assessment the company is eligible for both the Sustainability Impact Awards and Leader in the Light Awards. If the company does not participate in the GRESB Real Estate Assessment, it is still eligible for the Sustainability Impact Awards.

Eligibility
Only Nareit corporate member REITs and/or staff are eligible to apply for and receive Sustainability Impact Awards. Any staff member of the REIT may submit the company's application. The REIT’s membership status must be in good standing with Nareit through the 2024 calendar year.
Evaluation
Projects and programs in place by the end of 2023 will be evaluated based on the scoring from a panel of expert judges, on a scale of 0 - 10 in the following areas:
- Measurable Impact (30%)
- Innovation (30%)
- Replicability (20%)
- Overall Sustainability (20%)
