Daniel Goodwin, founder, chairman, and CEO of The Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, Inc., passed away Jan. 19 at the age of 80. Goodwin was the founding chairman of Nareit’s Public Non-Listed REIT Council.
Founded by Goodwin in 1968, Inland specializes in creating, developing, and supporting separate real estate investment and financial companies.
“Dan was a pioneer and visionary in the commercial real estate industry, as well as an exceptional human being and friend,” said Robert Baum, Inland interim chairman, on behalf of fellow Inland principals and co-founders G. Joseph Cosenza and Robert Parks.

American Healthcare REIT, Inc. named Marvin O’Quinn and Valerie Richardson to the company’s board of directors. Since February 2019, O’Quinn has served as the president and COO of CommonSpirit Health, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit healthcare systems. Richardson has served as the COO of ICSC, a professional trade organization serving the retail marketplaces industry, since February 2021.
Americold Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE: COLD) said Marc Smernoff, executive vice president and CFO stepped down on Jan. 12. Jay Wells was appointed to succeed Smernoff effective Jan. 15. He joins Americold from Primo Water, publicly traded water company focused on the U.S. and Canada, where he served as CFO from 2012 to 2023.
AvalonBay Communities, Inc. (NYSE: AVB) announced that Alaine Walsh, currently the company’s senior vice president–operations and investment services, has been promoted to executive vice president–human capital and administration. Walsh joined AvalonBay in 1998 in the finance group and has served in a variety of financial, administrative, and operational leadership positions.
Retiring from AvalonBay as of Jan.1, 2025 will be Joanne Lockridge, executive vice president–capital markets, and Keri Shea, senior vice president–finance and treasurer and the company’s principal accounting officer. As part of the planned transition and in advance of Lockridge’s retirement next year, Michael Simel, vice president–capital markets, has been promoted to senior vice president–capital markets. Upon Shea’s retirement next year, Sean Willson, senior vice president–corporate controller, will become the designated principal accounting officer.
Centerspace (NYSE: CSR) named Ola Oyinsan Hixon to its board of trustees. Hixon is an executive director at PGIM Real Estate and portfolio manager on the U.S. value-add equity team where she is responsible for investment strategy, transactions, asset management, and investor relations primarily for the affordable housing and impact fund strategies.
Robert Denton, Sr. was appointed to serve as chairman of the board at COPT Defense Properties (NYSE: CDP). Denton has served as an independent trustee of the company since 1999 and is currently the chairman of the nominating and corporate governance committee. Thomas Brady resigned as chairman of the board, effective Dec. 31, 2023, but remains on the board.
Bradley Singer was appointed to the board of directors at Crown Castle Inc. (NYSE: CCI). Singer previously served as COO and an investment partner at ValueAct Capital, CFO of Discovery Communications, and CFO and treasurer of American Tower Corp. (NYSE: AMT).
Crown Castle also announced that Dan Schlanger will remain in his role as executive vice president and CFO. The company previously announced Schlanger would depart on March 31. Crown Castle also said that Mike Kavanagh, previously its executive vice president and chief commercial officer, has been appointed executive vice president and COO for towers, and Chris Levendos will serve as executive vice president and COO for fiber, the position he held for several years.
Park Hotels & Resorts Inc. (NYSE: PK) announced the appointment of Terri McClements as a new independent director to its board. McClements, a licensed certified public accountant, retired in 2023 as a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where she spent over three decades in various roles.
Prologis, Inc. (NYSE: PLD) announced that Eddie Huang has joined the company as president of Greater China. Huang will be based in Shanghai. Previously, he served as chief strategy officer and assistant CEO of SF Group, where he was responsible for the company’s strategy formulation and implementation.
Sabra Health Care REIT, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBRA) named Jessica Flores as executive vice president and chief accounting officer and, in such capacity, has been designated by the board of directors as the company’s principal accounting officer. Flores previously served as Sabra’s senior vice president–finance and controller, a position she held since January 2022. Flores joined Sabra in March 2011 and held various leadership positions overseeing Sabra’s accounting during that time.
Safehold Inc. (NYSE: SAFE) said Tim Doherty, executive vice president, head of investments, has been appointed chief investment officer, and Steve Wylder, executive vice president, investments, has been appointed executive vice president, head of investments. The company's previous President and Chief Investment Officer Marcos Alvarado stepped down to join a private investment firm.
Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG) said Nina Jones has been appointed to its board of directors. Jones retired from T. Rowe Price, where she most recently served as vice president, portfolio manager, of the U.S. real estate equity strategy.
Terreno Realty Corp. (NYSE:TRNO) promoted John Meyer to COO. Prior to joining Terreno in 2010, Meyer was executive vice president, director of transactions, Southwest region of North America for AMB Property Corp (now Prologis, Inc. (NYSE: PLD)).
