During August, NAREIT’s Investor Outreach team met with 22 global investment organizations controlling close to $1 trillion in institutional investment assets. The meetings were held with organizations that included U.S. and foreign pension and endowment plans, investment consultants and managers, and organizations and associations active in supporting the global pension and retirement industry.
A focus for many of the meetings continues to be research that NAREIT sponsored with Wilshire Associates on the role of U.S. REITs and global listed real estate securities within target-date funds.
NAREIT has met this year with investment managers that collectively control more than 70 percent of target-date fund assets. Of the 138 meetings with investment managers thus far in 2015, 16 were with firms among the top 25 firms with respect to target-date fund assets under management.
During the month, NAREIT also attended the annual National Association of State Retirement Administrators (NASRA) conference. NASRA’s members consist of the directors of the nation’s public retirement systems that collectively oversee more than two-thirds of the $3.8 trillion held in trust for employees of state and local governments. The event attracted more than 600 attendees.
