Four U.S. REITs, Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR), Healthpeak Properties, Inc . (NYSE: DOC), Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. (Nasdaq: HST), and Prologis, Inc. (NYSE: PLD) have been named to both the Dow Jones Sustainability World and North America Indices.

BXP (NYSE: BXP), Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR), Kimco Realty (NYSE: KIM), and Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE: WY) were named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index. All changes took effect on Dec. 23, 2024.

For Host, this marks the sixth consecutive year that the REIT has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, and the eighth consecutive year of inclusion in the North America index.

“This acknowledgement underscores our dedication to making a positive impact on our industry and communities by prioritizing sustainability, innovation and responsible business practices as we seek to create long-term value while upholding the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility,” said Mike Lentz, executive vice president of development, design & construction and executive sponsor of Host’s corporate responsibility program.

Kyle Hendricks, Equity Residential’s vice president, head of sustainability, said that inclusion in both the World and North America indices is “recognition of our commitment to and accomplishments in creating a sustainable company that delivers long-term value to its shareholders and communities.”

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) are float-adjusted, market capitalization-weighted indices that measure the performance of companies selected using environmental, social, and governance criteria. The DJSI, including the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, were launched in 1999 as the pioneering series of global sustainability benchmarks available in the market.

A key factor in companies included in the DJSI is the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), which includes a mix of cross-industry and industry-specific questions. More than 13,000 companies are invited to participate in the CSA every year, but only about 3,500 of the largest companies globally are eligible for inclusion in any DJSI.
