LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12 — During its REITworld: 2019 Annual Conference, Nareit presented its 2019 Industry Leadership Award to Ed Walter, former CEO of Host Hotels and Resorts, and its 2019 Industry Achievement Award to Evercore Partners Senior Managing Director Sheila McGrath.
Nareit presents its Industry Leadership Award annually to a REIT executive who has made a significant and lasting contribution to the growth and betterment of the industry. The award is presented in memory of Edward H. Linde, the late CEO of Boston Properties.
In announcing the winner of this year’s Industry Leadership Award, Nareit’s 2020 Chair A. William Stein, chairman and CEO of Digital Realty, said that, as Nareit’s 2013 chair, “Ed was critical to our work advocating for REITs on Capitol Hill. He helped tell the REIT story to members of Congress, working tirelessly to advocate for the REIT community.”
The Nareit Industry Achievement Award presented to McGrath is given annually to professionals serving the REIT industry whose acumen and integrity have helped heighten awareness and understanding of the value of REITs and publicly traded real estate. The award is presented in memory of E. Lawrence Miller, the former CEO of one of the industry’s first REITs, Bradley Real Estate Trust.
In presenting the award, Sandeep Mathrani, CEO of Brookfield Properties Retail, vice chairman of Brookfield Properties and Nareit’s 2019 chair, said, “Sheila has been a respected REIT analyst for nearly two decades and is known in the industry as an independent, thorough, and thoughtful analyst. We are pleased to honor her leadership.”
