Hawaii grant presentation
Nareit Hawaii presented a check to (L-R) Marian Gushiken and Kevin Carney, both of EAH Housing, on Veterans Day 2021.

On Veterans Day last week, elected officials, community leaders and military veterans gathered to welcome the start of a new affordable rental housing development—Hale Nā Koa ‘O Hanakahi—that is being built in Hilo, Hawaii, for seniors, particularly retired veterans.

The event highlight was a $145,000 grant presented by the Nareit Hawaii Community Giving Initiative, a charitable program of the Nareit Foundation, to EAH Housing, the nonprofit housing developer.

Nareit Hawaii Executive Director Gladys Quinto Marrone said, “We applaud the mission of EAH Housing to provide affordable housing solutions for seniors in need and are especially proud to say, ‘thank you’ to veterans and their families for the dedicated service and sacrifices they have made to protect our freedom.”
