Michael Chang, director of energy and sustainability at Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: HST), joined Nareit for a video interview at Nareit’s 2018 ESG Forum in Seattle.
Chang described Host’s decision to include Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) metrics in its most recent 10-K filing as one of its biggest achievements of the past year.
“We felt we had a very positive story to tell,” Chang said. He added that it demonstrates how well sustainability is integrated within the organization.
Chang also discussed Host’s renewable energy projects. He noted that the REIT is planning to double solar capacity across the portfolio within the next two years.
As for 2018, Host will be looking at ways to more effectively engage its suppliers in sustainability regarding materials procured for renovations. Host will also focus on boosting social programs within its properties, Chang said.
